Dr. Philip McDonald, from Mount Vernon, NY, is a board-certified physician in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology, originating from Jamaican heritage. His Christian faith, instilled by his parents, Skipworth and Sonia McDonald, has guided him throughout his life. Some of the highlights of his earlier training include receiving a Christian education from Northeastern Academy High School, where he graduated as Salutatorian, and attending Oakwood University, where he studied Biological Sciences and was awarded Magna Cum Laude for his academic excellence.
Dr McDonald earned his M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine on a full tuition academic scholarship. He completed his Radiology residency at Staten Island University Hospital/Northwell Health and specialized in Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine Radiology during a Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.
As the Founder and CEO of PrimeTime Radiology LLC, Dr McDonald is a significant figure in sports medicine. PrimeTime Radiology provides teleradiology services to professional athletes and teams nationwide, offering expert radiological opinions under his leadership. Dr McDonald also serves as the Lead Clinical Advisor for the Sports Medicine division of DocPanel.com, extending his expertise globally. He advises professional sports teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB and is known as “Dr. X” for his precise diagnoses of athletes’ injuries. He is also a recognized medical analyst for NBA TV, having analyzed injuries of prominent players like Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry.
In January 2023, Dr McDonald was appointed Chief Medical Officer of Parker Health. He leveraged his extensive medical expertise to drive innovative healthcare technologies, contributing to the expansion of ParkerCare™, a healthcare subscription solution.
Dr McDonald is a dedicated Team Market Owner of the basketball team Los Angeles Ignite, competing in The Basketball League (TBL) and The Basketball Tournament (TBT). He purchased the Los Angeles Ignite team in June 2023. Since its start, Ignite has competed and been successful in the TBL, a league led by Evelyn and Dave Magley, acting as a springboard for basketball players to showcase their talents and advance their basketball careers. This year, Ignite was granted the opportunity to compete in the The Basketball Tournament, a summer basketball tournament broadcast to millions of people worldwide via FOX Sports, and in prior years via ESPN. This year’s TBT was aired via FOX Sports (FS1 and FS2), which recently surpassed ESPN (ESPN1 and ESPN2) as the most carried sports TV Network in the United States, with an average broadcast viewership of 3.5 million people.
A docuseries chronicling the team’s journey is set to premiere by 2025. Dr McDonald also leads Ignite-LA/Ignite World, a Christian ministry focused on community outreach, demonstrating his commitment to service and faith.
In March of 2024, Dr McDonald launched X-RAYTED SPORTS NETWORK, a media company offering basketball enthusiasts insider news and insights. He also opened a content studio in Los Angeles to empower creatives to transform their ideas into successful ventures. This studio offers a platform for emerging talent to develop and showcase their work.
Amongst his numerous medical and entrepreneurial endeavors, Dr McDonald is also the mastermind behind the cartoon “Invincibles 4:13,” which is currently being pitched to major studios. This series reflects his commitment to blending entertainment with inspirational messages, drawing on his strong faith and values.
Dr McDonald resides in Los Angeles with his loving and supportive wife, Grammy-nominated artist Sheléa Melody McDonald. Sheléa is an accomplished musician, songwriter, producer, and actress, having performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, The Hollywood Bowl, The Royal Albert Hall and The White House. Philip and Sheléa are world travelers who spread love and light, igniting positive change together as a couple wherever they go. Married since December 31, 2020, they share a passion for helping others and making a remarkable difference in the world.
